V pondělí 20.dubna 2009 se sešla valná hromada akcionářů, aby zvolila nové orgány společnosti. Na návrh majoritního akcionáře se rozšířil počet členů představenstva z pěti na sedm. Novými členy představenstva se stali – Zdeněk Bakala, majoritní akcionář Economie, Andrew Knight, člen představenstva globální mediální společnosti News Corporation, Michael Grabner, bývalý ředitel mediální skupiny Georg von Holtzbrinck, Bessel Kok, bývalý generální ředitel Českého Telecomu a Casimir Knight, ředitel společnosti Chelsea Digital Media, mediální pobočky fotbalového klubu Chelsea. Znovu byli zvoleni stávající členové představenstva generální ředitel Michal Klíma a finanční ředitel Petr Babický.
Do dozorčí rady byli zvoleni Kamil Čermák a Luboš Řežábek.
Generální ředitel Michal Klíma na valné hromadě poděkoval odcházejícím členům představenstva Zdeňku Mrkvovi a Milanu Stibralovi za jejich mnohaletou práci pro vydavatelství Economia i za podporu v komplikované situaci prodeje společnosti. Dále řekl: „Jsem velmi rád, že zvolením nového představenstva skončilo více než roční složité období prodeje vydavatelství. Economia má připraveny nové projekty, které konečně budeme moci realizovat.“
Nově zvolené představenstvo se bezprostředně po zvolení sešlo ke svému prvnímu zasedání. Představenstvo zvolilo Andrew Knighta předsedou představenstva. Místopředsedou se stal Zdeněk Bakala. Představenstvo se seznámilo s aktuálními výsledky společnosti a s plány managementu na další rozvoj vydavatelství.
Majoritní akcionář Zdeněk Bakala se vyjádřil ke složení představenstva: „Mým úmyslem je, aby Economia brzy expandovala na českém i mezinárodním trhu. K tomu je třeba, aby v jejím představenstvu byli lidé se zkušenostmi z mezinárodního mediálního byznysu. Jsem rád, že právě takové se nám podařilo pro Economii získat.“
Předseda představenstva Andrew Knight uvedl: „Economia je předním poskytovatelem kvalitních informací a odpovědných komentářů tištěných periodik včetně on line. Má skutečný potenciál v této významné době, kdy tolik jiných subjektů působících v oblasti médií význam a důležitost kvalitních informací a komentářů podceňuje.“
Představenstvo schválilo listinu hodnot společnosti, které vyjadřují vůli vlastníka směrem k obsahu vydávaných titulů.

Economia je největším vydavatelstvím ekonomických a odborných periodik v České republice. Prostřednictvím své dceřiné společnosti Ecopress podniká také na Slovensku. Byla založena v r. 1990, jejím většinovým vlastníkem je Zdeněk Bakala. Economia vydává deník Hospodářské noviny, týdeníky Ekonom, Respekt, Marketing & Media, Obchodní věstník a dalších 17 odborných titulů. Provozuje zpravodajský portál iHNed.cz, personální karieraweb.cz a dalších cca 20 webů. Economia je také úspěšným pořadatelem mnoha odborných konferencí a seminářů.

Od roku 2002 zastával funkci finančního ředitele v energetické skupině Appian Group. V roce 2005 se vrátil jako partner do auditorské a poradenské společnosti Deloitte, kde poslední tři roky odpovídal za rozvoj poradenských služeb pro zákazníky v soukromém sektoru a ve veřejné správě na Slovensku. Finančním ředitelem společnosti Economia je Petr Babický od února 2009.
Zdeněk Bakala

Od roku 1990 pracoval jako ředitel československé sekce Credit Suisse First Boston Czechoslovakia v Praze. V roce 2004 byl jeden ze zakladatelů mezinárodní investiční skupiny RPG. Je spolumajitelem kyperské investiční skupiny RPG Industries SE, od května 2008 je členem dozorčí rady OKD, od roku 2006 je místopředsedou představenstva a nepřímo ovládá asi 30 procent New World Resources N.V. (NWR).

V roce 1988 se stal výkonným ředitelem společnosti Mediaprint Verlags - und Druckerei GmbH. Od r. 1991 byl výkonným ředitelem holdingu Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck ve Stuttgartu. V květnu 2001 se stal místopředsedou jeho výkonné rady. Od dubna 2007 působí samostatně v oblasti médií – je majitelem firmy “Michael Grabner Media” se sídlem ve Vídni.
Michal Klíma

V r. 1989 se podílel na obnově Lidových novin, jejichž ředitelem byl pak do r. 1997. Od roku 1998 působí ve vydavatelství Economia a.s., nejdříve jako výkonný ředitel, poté jako ředitel dceřiné společnosti Economia OnLine, od července 2003 jako generální ředitel celého vydavatelství. V červnu 2007 byl zvolen do čela představenstva Economia a.s.
Je členem správní rady Unie vydavatelů (UVDT), členem výkonného výboru Světové asociace novin (WAN) a zastupuje české vydavatele v Evropské asociaci novinových vydavatelů (ENPA).
Casimir Knight

V letech 1993 až 1998 žil a působil v Praze, původně jako britský diplomat a následně jako zakládající společník agentury Knight & Svoboda poskytující komplexní služby v oblasti komunikace. Ve Velké Británie v roce 1999 začal působit v odvětví sportovního byznysu jako ředitel společnosti Chelsea Digital Media, společného podniku fotbalového klubu Chelsea Football Club a přední britské komerční televizní společnosti BskyB zaměřeného na média.
Andrew Knight
člen představenstva společnosti News Corporation a předseda představenstva společnosti J. Rothschild Capital Management Ltd.
Narozen 1939, studoval na kolejích Ampleforth a Balliol Oxfordské univerzity. Je ředitelem společnosti News Corporation a předsedou představenstva J. Rothschild Capital Management. Je bývalým šéfredaktorem časopisu The Economist, působil jako generální ředitel a šéfredaktor novinové skupiny Telegraph a předseda představenstva společnosti Times Newspaper Holdings a zástupce a místopředseda představenstva společnosti Home Counties Newspaper Holdings.
Bessel Kok

V roce 1971 se stal jedním ze zakládajících členů Společnosti pro celosvětovou mezibankovní finanční telekomunikaci (S.W.I.F.T.), od roku 1980 pak jejím prezidentem a generálním ředitelem. V letech 1989 až 2006 působil v nejvyšších funkcích postupně v různých telekomunikačních společnostech, mimo jiné byl ředitelem Českého Telekomu. V současné době je členem představenstva a předsedou kontrolní komise NWR, skupiny OKD, a předsedou představenstva společnosti Sahara NV Nizozemí v Amsterodamu (pobočky mezinárodní dceřiné společnosti Belgacom).

V letech 1999 až 2002 byl generálním ředitelem společnosti Intercable CZ.. Od roku 2005 je předsedou dozorčí rady OKD a.s., v letech 2007 – 2009 vykonával funkci člena představenstva společnosti Respekt Publishing, od roku 2008 je členem dozorčích rad společností Respekt Media a Economia, stejný post zastává také ve firmě RPG Automotive.
Economia has a new Board of Directors and Supervisory Board
The General Meeting of shareholders has met today to elect new company bodies. At the proposal of the majority shareholder, the number of members of the Board of Directors changed from five to seven. New members of the Board of Directors are: Zdeněk Bakala, Economia’s majority shareholder, Andrew Knight, Director of the the global media company News Corporation, Michael Grabner, the former director of the Georg von Holtzbrinck media group, Bessel Kok, the former CEO of Český Telecom and Casimir Knight, the Managing Director of Chelsea Digital Media, Chelsea football club’s media arm. The existing members of the Board of Directors, Michal Klíma, the Chief Executive Officer, and Petr Babický, the Chief Financial Officer, have been re-elected.
Kamil Čermák and Luboš Řežábek have been elected members of the Supervisory Board.
At the General Meeting, Michal Klíma, the CEO, thanked the members who leave the Board of Directors, Zdeněk Mrkva and Milan Stibral, for the many years of work for the Economia publishing house as well as for their support in the complicated situation when the company was being sold. He also said: “I am very glad that the election of the new Board of Directors marks the end of a complicated period for the publishing house that lasted for more than one year. Economia has ready new projects that we will finally be able to realize.“
The newly elected Board of Directors met, immediately after being elected, for its first meeting. The Board of Directors elected its new Chairman, Andrew Knight to be its new Chairman. Zdeněk Bakala has become the Vice-Chairman. The Board of Directors was informed about the company’s actual results and the plans the management has in terms of the further development of the publishing house.
The majority shareholder, Zdeněk Bakala, commented on the staffing of the Board of Directors: “It is my intention to see that Economia expands soon in both the Czech and the international markets. In order to achieve this, its Board of Directors must consist of people who have experience in the international media business. I am glad that we managed to get exactly that type of people for Economia.”
The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Andrew Knight, said: “This group of online platform and newspapers is a leader in quality of information and responsible comment. It has real potential when so many others in media are reducing their significance and relevance in these important times.“

Economia is the largest publisher of economic and B2B periodicals in the Czech Republic. Through its Ecopress subsidiary, it does business also in Slovakia. It was founded in 1990, its majority owner is Zdeněk Bakala. Economia publishes the Hospodářské noviny daily, Ekonom, Respekt, Marketing & Media, Obchodní věstník weeklies and further 17 B2B titles. Since 2002, he held the position of the chief financial director in the Appian Group trading in energy commodities. In 2005, he returned as a partner to the Deloitte auditing and consultancy firm where he was responsible in the last three years, for the development of consultancy services for customers in the private sector and in public administration in Slovakia. Petr Babický has been Economia’s Chief Financial Officer since February 2009.
Zdeněk Bakala
Majority shareholder of Economia, Vice-Chairman of NWR’s Board of Directors, co-owner of OKD
Since 1990, he has worked as the director of the Czechoslovak section of Credit Suisse First Boston Czechoslovakia in Prague. In 2004, he was one of the founders of the RPG international investment group. He is a co-owner of the Cyprus-based investment group RPG Industries SE, since May 2008, he has been a member of OKD’s Supervisory Board; since 2006, he has been a Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and indirectly controls around 30 percent of New World Resources N.V. (NWR).

In 1988, he became the Managing Director of the Mediaprint Verlags- und Druckerei GmbH company. Since 1991, he has been the Managing Director of the Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck holding in Stuttgart. In May 2001, he became the Vice-Chairman of its Executive Board. Since April 2007, he has been a self-employed media entrepreneur and the owner of the “Michael Grabner Media” located in Vienna.

In 1989, he took part in the reestablishment of the Lidové Noviny dialy whose director he then was until 1997. Since 1998, he has worked in the Economia a.s. publishing house, first as its Managing Director, then as the director of the Economia OnLine subsidiary; since July 2003, as the Chief Executive Officer of the whole publishing house. In June 2007, he was elected the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Economia a.s.
He is a member of the Management Board of the Czech Publishers Association (UVDT), a member of the Executive Board of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) and represents Czech publishers in the European Newspaper Publishers' Association (ENPA).
Casimir Knight

Mr. Knight lived in Prague between 1993 and 1998, initially as a British diplomat and subsequently as a founding partner of the Knight & Svoboda agency providing comprehensive services in the area of communication. In the United Kingdom, he started to work in the sports business field in 1999 as the Director of Chelsea Digital Media, the media joint venture between Chelsea Football Club and BSkyB, the UK’s leading commercial broadcaster.

Born in 1939, he was educated at Ampleforth College and Balliol College, Oxford University. He is a director of News Corporation and Chairman of J. Rothschild Capital Management, was the Chairman of News International plc from 1990 to 1994. He is a former Editor-in-Chief of The Economist magazine and served as the Chief Executive and the Editor-in-Chief of the Telegraph newspaper group, Chairman of Times Newspaper Holdings and the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Home Counties Newspaper Holdings company.
Bessel Kok
Member of the Board of Directors and the Chairman of the Audit Committee of NWR, the OKD Group.
In 1971, he became one of the founding members of the Society for World Wide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (S.W.I.F.T.); as from 1980, he was the Society’s President and CEO. In the period of 1989 to 2006 he gradually worked on the top positions of various telecommunication companies, in addition to other positions he held, he was also the director of Český Telekom. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors and the Chairman of the Audit Committee of NWR, the OKD Group, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sahara NV, the Netherlands in Amsterdam (International subsidiary Belgacom-Belgium).
